Whether you are a project manager or team member, understanding and practicing the basics of good project management will make the effort more fun and much more successful.  This seminar will take you through several basics in an interactive and informative way, so you understand the concepts. It will provide a good basis for contributing to your current or next project and growing your skills. The principles covered apply to all projects but particularly those one-month to one-year projects that are the basis of most engineering activities. This program offers a clear set of basic techniques that when well applied is fundamental to project success.

This is an interactive session with time for discussion and questions. It will cover a few fundamentals of project management and then discuss topics like the project charter, estimating, execution and scheduling.

Biography:

Doug Holly is an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Maryland Innovation Center where he coaches startup businesses in project management, product development, business improvement, sales, financial management and strategy. He is also the principal at Eagle Management Group a consulting firm that provides general management, project management and strategic planning to improve operational performance to small businesses and startups. He brings a broad range of experience particularly in the fields of business development, telecommunications, mergers and acquisitions and system engineering. He is a former Executive at JDSU’s (now Viavi Solutions) communications test division where he held positions ranging from engineering, sales, general management and executive management. Early in his career Doug worked at IBM Federal Systems division, managing development of avionic computers, system integration and strategic planning.

He earned his electrical engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where his master’s project was developing a rangefinder system for an early prototype of a Mars autonomous vehicle. He is a long-time member of IEEE and is currently chair of the Washington Section of the Communications Society and TEMS. Doug is an avid fan of the space program and likes hiking and taking things apart to see how they work.
