Registration is Required

Wanapum Dam, located just south of Vantage, Washington, on the traditional land of the Wanapum Band of Priest Rapids, completed a 10-unit, $228 million rehabilitation in 2020.  Upgrade work began in 2004 with the replacement of each unit's turbines followed by rebuilding the generators in 2010.  The units dated to when the dam first started generating in 1963 and the rehabbed units output was increased from 109.3 MVA to 128.6 MVA and are expected to be in service for another 50 years.

For the October meeting, the Central Washington Chapter of the IEEE will take a tour of the Wanapum Hydroelectric Facility. The tour is expected to take between 2 and 3 hours and will require a great deal of walking.  Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hard hats, safety glasses, high visibility vests, and sturdy leather walking shoes are required to be worn at all times while on the tour.  You are welcome to bring your own PPE but Grant PUD will provide hard hats, safety glasses, and vests if you don't bring yours. BE SURE TO WEAR STURDY LEATHER SHOES BECAUSE THEY ARE REQUIRED.
