Microwave Remote Sensing - The RADARSAT Story

An often-asked question: Why spend so much money on space missions?  Could this money be better invested to improve the lives of people?

This talk will present one of the many important Canadian accomplishments in space and resulting impact on society.

Canada having the second largest land mass (after Russia) poses significant challenge in monitoring both the land mass and coastal regions.  For such applications, space-based remote sensing offers the most economical approach over cost-prohibitive airborne and, even more so, in the case of land-based alternatives.

Benefits of such a remote-sensing system are also not limited to Canada but offers important global data otherwise unavailable such as for disaster management.
