Bruce MacDougall, P.Eng
Technical Projects at the COVE
Bruce MacDougall will present an overview of COVE and its activities and direction within the context of the Blue Economy. This will include discussion of current COVE projects and initiatives including marine decarbonization, the Stella Maris project, and Digital Harbour, a project aimed at creating comprehensive data sets reflecting biological, chemical, and physical parameters gathered from multiple sources in the Halifax harbour and approaches.
Biography:
Bruce MacDougall is a Senior Project Manager at COVE. Bruce is a computer engineer, tech entrepreneur, and business leader. He has had many years of experience in telecom before becoming immersed in ocean technologies at COVE. Bruce is involved in the business community in Atlantic Canada, focusing on investment and mentorship, business strategy, and technology leadership. Bruce was the project manager for the COVE Stella Maris subsea platform. He is a member of the board of directors of Mitacs, a long-time IEEE member, and a professional engineer registered in Nova Scotia. Originally from Quebec, Bruce lives in Halifax with his family.
Dr. Jason Gu

Biography:
Dr. Jason Gu is the 2022-2023 IEEE Canada Past-President and a senior IEEE member from Canada Atlantic Section.
He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2001 from University of Alberta and is a Professor and Director of the robotics laboratory at Dalhousie University. He has published over 250 Journal, book chapters and conference papers in biomedical engineering, robotics, systems and control.
Dr. Gu served as associate editor for many IEEE periodicals and Program/General Chair for over a dozen IEEE conferences and has been the Vice Chair and Chair for IEEE Canada Atlantic Section (CAS) and he is currently the IEEE Canada Conference Editorial Board Chair and Awards Committee Vice Chair.
Dr. Gu was awarded the outstanding IEEE Student Branch Councillor award (2004), and was the recipient of The IEEE CAS Murugan Memorial Award (2014). He received IEEE J. J. Eastern Canada merit service Award in 2016. He is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada and Canadian Academy of Engineering.
