Professor Roland Geyer Professor Roland Geyer of UCSB

Topic:

The Business of Less: The Role of Companies and Households on a Planet in Peril

Since its inception thirty years ago, environmental sustainability has been based on the concepts

of “eco-efficiency” and “win-win”. Despite countless eco-efficiency and win-win efforts across

the world, the state of the natural environment has further degraded instead of improved. This

talk first explains why our current approach to environmental sustainability was doomed to fail

and then introduces a new set of principles that together provide a road map, for businesses and

for households, to a world in which human prosperity and a healthy environment are no longer at

odds.
