Abstract: The worldwide electrical grid is undergoing a great transformation, driven by climate goals and the rapid advancement of digital technology. This special talk will provide an industry perspective on the opportunities and challenges on the grid, and the role of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS), and other smart grid technologies that can help build the grid of the future.

Jeanie Chin Jeanie Chin of ATCO

Biography:

Jeanie Chin is a Professional Engineer and Project Management Professional with over 16 years of experience in the Alberta electric utility industry.  In her current role as Supervising Engineer for the HVDC & FACTS Engineering team at ATCO Electric, she leads a team of engineers focused on HVDC & FACTS technologies to address grid stability challenges.  Jeanie is a strong advocate for the need for energy transition, and over her career has lead numerous projects in developing and implementing clean energy strategies from concept to implementation.  Key projects include solar PV and battery installations, EV charging networks, and a microgrid research lab.
