Dr. Tom Simpson

Biography:

Thomas B. Simpson (M’95) received the Ph.D. degree in applied physics from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA, in 1983, investigating infrared multiphoton excitation of polyatomic molecules. He then served for four years in the U.S. Army, assigned to the Harry Diamond Research Laboratories, where he investigated optical and nonlinear optical properties of doping superlattices and other novel materials. In 1987, he joined Jaycor (subsequently purchased by L-3 Communications, and now part of L-3 Applied Technogies, Inc.) as a Senior Scientist. He has investigated a variety of topics in photonics, with the nonlinear dynamics of semiconductor lasers as a principal research area. He has published more than 40 technical papers and has one patent. Dr. Simpson is a member of the American Physical Society, the Sigma Xi, and the Tau Beta Pi
