IEEE Starlink Emergency Safety Network
Join us for an informative talk on Elon Musk's Starlink Emergency Safety Network
The talk will concentrate on Starlink use cases with particular emphasis on public safety (ESN), SME and community broadband and IoT projects. Current hardware, its suitability, shortcomings, performance and remedial services that can make Starlink a viable solution for edge of network, ultra-rural and disaster recovery deployments. Starlink’s immediate future, and its relationship with competing services such as OneWeb, Project Kuiper and Apple’s Globalstar SOS service.

Tim Belfall has worked in the technology sector since the early 80’s, initially with Raytheon and Reuters negotiating with US and UK government agencies. During the 90’s Tim worked as a consultant on mobile data, HDML, and early mobile email before joining Nokia and subsequently Thus. Here he specialized in mobile technologies, particularly low bandwidth optimized communications such as WAP, Smart Messaging and data over HSCSD/GPRS. Subsequently, he worked on a competitor to BlackBerry, Openhand until setting up his own company creating solutions around mobile device management, Wi-Fi and consulting for Airwave on their bid for the UK’s ESMCP critical communication upgrade, with a particular emphasis on edge of network coverage and devices.
