This presentation is an overview of the research performed miniaturizing the telemetry tracking and control (TT&C) antenna for the Grissom-P bus. The objective of the research is to combine known miniaturization techniques to retain the key performance parameters of the dual patch, S-band array without increasing overall thickness or altering the feed structure and network. Various approaches are examined and include shorting pins, corner truncation, and a virtually shorted patch antenna.

This presentation is an overview of the research performed miniaturizing the telemetry tracking and control (TT&C) antenna for the Grissom-P bus. The objective of the research is to combine known miniaturization techniques to retain the key performance parameters of the dual patch, S-band array without increasing overall thickness or altering the feed structure and network. Various approaches are examined and include shorting pins, corner truncation, and a virtually shorted patch antenna.

Biography:

Thomas Butterick is an electrical engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratories, Systems Technology Office. He joined the Marine Corps infantry in 2005, was assigned to the Presidential Retreat at Camp David, and served in Helmand Province, Afghanistan as a member of 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment from 2008-2009. In 2010, Tom began his undergraduate studies in electrical engineering at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan. During that time, he worked as a contractor performing RF measurements in a large anechoic chamber at WPAFB. He graduated in 2015 and transitioned to civil service in 2017. Since then, he has managed several material and airframe development projects, working with numerous government and industry research partners. Thomas is currently completing his M.S in electromagnetics from AFIT.
