IEEE MVSR Student Branch in association with the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering of MVSR Engineering College has organized a competition called Ideathon with the theme “Think, Ideate and Inspire”. The competition was held on 11^th October 2022.

Ideathon is a brainstorming event, to help young talents generate fresh solutions to existing challenges in their communities. Participants work in teams or as individuals and use innovative ideas and practices such as design thinking to brainstorm on possible solutions.

Participants need to identify a problem in the domain chosen and present their idea/solution to solve it. Participants first need to choose a theme from the available themes. Then they need to find a problem in the selected theme. Finally, they are supposed to analyze the problem and need to bring up an idea that could potentially solve the problem identified. The available themes are Technological solutions that helps in -

• Reducing Carbon Footprint
• Mental Health
• Smart Education
• Use Cases of 5G technology
• Renewable Energy
• Computer Science
• Make in India

The rules of the event were,

1. Participants can register individually or in teams with at most 2 members
2. Team must select only one theme from aforementioned set of themes.
3. Team must make 4-5 slides for presentation
4. Both IEEE and Non IEEE members can participate in the contest

Firstly, participants submitted a brief description of their problem statement and also the abstract of their idea. The submissions were evaluated by the judging panel which consisted of

Dr D. Hari Krishna, Student Branch Counsellor, IEEE MVSR SB and Mr. Bharat Mohan, Assistant Professor, EEE Department the submissions which had valid problem statements and those ideas which have the potential to solve few problems in the community were accepted.

Then the participants had given a presentation of their idea in front of a panel of eminent judges using PowerPoint presentation in the google meet.

The presentations of the participants involved the description of their problem statement, modular structure of their idea, resources required for the implementation, challenges that could be encountered in the execution, what kind of impact could be brought in the society when the solution is executed. Any kind of environmental losses that could occur when the idea gets executed. And also, some of the participants were asked to display pseudocode if required.

The ideas were evaluated by Dr. Dr D. Hari Krishna, Student Branch Counsellor, IEEE MVSR SB and Mr. Bharat Mohan, Assistant Professor, EEE Department. The evaluation criteria involved the participant’s presentation, the potential of the idea and the solution, how unique the idea was, the impact that could be brought up in the society.

In addition to evaluation, judges also gave them some valuable suggestions on the improvements that can be made and guided them on how to proceed further and implement their ideas in real time. All the teams that participated have come up with fresh and innovative ideas to solve various problems prevailing in society. This event was a huge success with great participation and great ideas.
