Artificial Intelligence has been widely adopted in schools and universities across the world. This presentation will cover the considerations of using AI in Education (AIEd), such as the affordance of this technology in education as well as the ethical challenges. Findings of two systematic reviews on AI in K-12 and AI in higher education will be presented. This includes information on contextual information, such as geographical interest in AIEd, academic levels, and disciplines, who the AI is intended for, and most importantly, trends in how AI is being used. With such powerful tools, ethical considerations are discussed alongside the uses of AIEd.

Biography:

Dr. Helen Crompton is an Associate Professor of Instructional Technology at Old Dominion University. With a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education and Technology in Education, she focuses her research on technology integration and learning with technologies, such as mobile devices, artificial intelligence, and virtual/mixed/augmented reality. She is the director of the Technology Enhanced Learning Lab (TELL), the Virtual Reality Lab and Dr. Crompton is the CEO of Crompton Consulting. 

 

Dr. Crompton has been requested to advise and consult for various NGOs, governments, companies, and universities for her expertise in the use of technology to enhance and extend learning. This includes work for the United Nations (UNESCO, ITU), Oxford University, Cambridge University, The World Bank, and USAID. Her scholarly efforts have gained awards, and recognition. For example, Crompton is listed in Stanford’s top 2% of scientists in the world and the United Nations formally recognized her as one of nine experts in the world for mobile learning.
