Biography:

Dan Rice – Vice President, Digital Governance

Walmart

As Walmart’s Vice President of Digital Governance, Dan and his team handle programmatic governance and compliance for US Privacy, Digital Values and Emerging Technology, Global Records and Information Management, and Data Governance. Dan’s team is focused on customer trust, and helping ensure Walmart’s responsible use of technology and data. This involves everything from compliance with laws and regulations to advising on the design of emerging technology solutions, and ensuring there is a structure through which the data Walmart creates is well governed.

 

Dan is a lawyer by education and training, and has held both legal and non-legal positions at Walmart in his 10 years with the company. His first client at Walmart was the Chief Information Security Officer and the InfoSec team, as well as the Chief Privacy Officer. Dan also handled legal advice for the company’s anti-money laundering and financial services team, oversaw the program for Walmart’s regulated products, and has held various roles in Privacy as well – legal and non-legal, prior to taking his current role. Prior to Walmart, Dan was in-house counsel for a financial services technology company, and spent his first 5 years after law school in private practice. He holds an undergraduate degree in Literature and Philosophy from Missouri state, and obtained his J.D. from University of Missouri.
