Dr. Hugh Zhu is currently the Chair for the DEIS Technical Committee on Aging Factors. The function of the technical committee is to gather knowledge on insulation aging and failure mechanisms; helping to develop IEEE standards for evaluating material and insulation life under different stress factors. Providing leadership, information, and coordination through the organization of technical meetings, workshops, sessions, and publications. Develop or revise guides for the use of statistics in the evaluation of electrical insulation properties.
His presentation will focus on Accelerated aging testing on stator bars and coils of rotation machines.

Dr. Hugh Zhu
Biography:
Hugh Zhu received his Ph.D. in studying partial discharge measurement in rotating machines in the UK. He has over 30-year experience in dielectric testing, insulation aging testing, partial discharge testing, condition assessment, maintenance and failure investigation of the insulation systems of rotating machines through working with the research/testing organizations and utilities in the UK, Canada, and the USA. His work experience includes both lab and field testing of rotating machine insulation. Hugh is a USA representative of CIGRE A1 Study Committee (rotating machines) and a member of the Technical Advisory Group of the USA National Committee of IEC TC2 (rotating machines). He chais the Working Groups of IEEE1553 “Standard for voltage- endurance testing of form-wound coils and bars for hydrogenerators” and IEEE1434 “Guide for the Measurement of Partial Discharges in AC Electric Machinery”. Hugh is also the chair of the Aging Factors Technical Committee of IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society. He can be reached at hzhu@ieee.org.
