The IEEE-KC PES/IAS Joint Chapter is pleased to announce its Technical Seminar Series for Spring 2023!
The seminar series will once again be hosted virtually via WebEx in 2023.

Dan Payton of The Okonite Company
Topics to be covered will include:
- Basic Medium Voltage cable construction components and their purposes (conductor, conductor shield, insulation, insulation shield, shielding, jackets and optional armor).
- Standard differentiating characteristics in Medium Voltage cable construction for specific industries (utility vs. industrial vs. hazardous area, etc.).
- Design choices for different conductor types (both different metals and conductor stranding options), shielding variables (tape shield, concentric neutral, LCS etc.) and different jacket options (PVC, PE, TS-CPE, LSZH, etc.).
- Production testing methods (AC Withstand and Corona Testing) vs. field testing (Hi-Pot vs VLF... also Tan Delta).
Biography:
Dan Payton represents The Okonite Company and is a veteran of the wire and cable industry for over thirty years. As District Manager, he oversees a five-state territory and leads a dynamic team identifying and providing cabling solutions for his customer base. Throughout his career, Dan has served in a variety of professional roles including sales management, operations/manufacturing leadership, and on-site field application engineering. He received his Bachelors of Business Administration from The University of Georgia in Management. Dan currently resides in Olathe, Kansas with his wife Kemberly and daughter Bailey.
Agenda
The evening's seminar will include two presentations and will begin promptly at 6:00pm CDT. Each presentation will include 1 break, as well as a short quiz and survey. Completion of the quiz will be required to receive a PDH certificate. A short break will be included between presentations.
