Education Policy Implementation for the Future: Dr.Shakila Shamsu
On 13th March 2023, the IEEE EdSoc Kerala Chapter and IEEE WiE Kerala Section organized an event titled "Education Policy Implementation for the Future". The event was conducted from 8 pm to 9.15 pm, and it was attended by 50 participants. The main aim of the event was to discuss the National Education Policy 2020 and its implementation in higher education institutions. Dr. Shakila Shamsu, formerly OSD (New Education Policy) in the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE),was the keynote speaker of the event and Dr. Kumarasamy provided their insights on the topic.The event was conducted in online mode and was hosted by Dr. Muhammed Kasim (Chair, IEEE Kerala Section).
Mission and Vision:
The mission of the event was to create awareness about the National Education Policy 2020 and its implementation in higher education institutions. The vision was to empower faculty and students through the policy and promote digital innovation and technology for achieving gender equality.
Content of the event:
Dr. Shakila Shamsu, the main speaker of the event, started by discussing the National Education Policy 2020 and its key features. She mentioned that the policy aims to provide an inclusive, equitable, and holistic education system that contributes to India's development. The policy envisions transforming India into a knowledge superpower by providing quality education to all. She also discussed the four pillars of the policy - Access, Equity, Quality, and Affordability.
Dr. Shakila highlighted the need for higher education institutions to create an Institutional Development Plan (IDP) to implement the policy effectively. The IDP is a strategic plan of action and a vision document developed by internal and external stakeholders of the institution. It identifies the institution's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats and outlines the ways to achieve the institution's goals and objectives. The IDP is a living document that needs constant revision, modification, and mid-course corrections to ensure effective implementation.
Dr. Kumarasamy provided his insights on the policy's implementation and emphasized that the policy's success depends on effective implementation at the institutional level. He mentioned that the IDP is a crucial tool for institutions to implement the policy effectively. He also discussed the importance of technology and digital innovation in implementing the policy and achieving gender equality.
Mrs. Lisha Babu and Dr. Muhammed Kasim winded up the session by thanking Dr. Shakila and Dr. Kumarasamy for their valuable insights. They emphasized the need for faculty and students to work collaboratively to implement the National Education Policy 2020 effectively.
