Tour of the Human-Interaction and RObotics [HIRO] Group
This event is a luncheon and tour of the Human Interaction and Robotics group. The group is within the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at CU Boulder.
Their website states: "Our work lies at the intersection of research in human-robot interaction, artificial intelligence and robot control & planning with the goal of developing robot technologies that enable close, natural, and extended cooperation with humans."
Directions and Parking: we will meet at 11am in room 1B70 at the Discovery Learning Center (DLC) (LINK). Guest (paid) parking is available in Lot 440 (LINK) and is a short 5 minute walk from the DLC.

Computer Science Department at University of Colorado Boulder,
Our host is Alessandro Roncone, PhD. Dr. Roncone is a Senior Member of the IEEE Denver Section.
Biography:
Alessandro Roncone is an Assistant Professor of Robotics in the Computer Science Department at University of Colorado Boulder, where he directs the Human-Interaction and RObotics [HIRO] Group (https://hiro-group.ronc.one/) and the Interdisciplinary Research Theme in Engineering Education Research and AI-Augmented Learning (https://www.colorado.edu/irt/engineering-education-ai/). His research is focused on designing robot systems that work with and around people. He implements transparent, human-centered technologies where robots transition from being recipients of human instructions to becoming proficient and proactive collaborators.
Alessandro received his B.Sc. summa cum laude in Biomedical Engineering in February 2008, and his M.Sc. summa cum laude in NeuroEngineering in July 2011 from University of Genoa, Italy. In April 2015 he completed his Ph.D. in Robotics, Cognition and Interaction Technologies from the Institute of Technology [IIT]. He then moved to Yale University, and started his faculty position at CU Boulder in 2018.
