On 21st April 2023, the IEEE-JUIT SB organized an 18-hour hackathon, starting from      6:00 PM onwards at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, Himachal Pradesh, India in collaboration with IEEE Delhi Section and IEEE YMCA Faridabad SB. 

The hackathon began with great enthusiasm as participants formed teams and dived into their respective projects. There were total of 24 teams (96 participants) and the participation also came from Chandigarh University. They worked tirelessly throughout the night to develop their prototypes. At 12:00 AM (April 22nd, 2023), a mid-evaluation was conducted, where judges and mentors provided feedback and guidance to the participants. The teams received valuable insights and suggestions on improving their projects, which helped them further refine their solutions. To keep the participants motivated, refreshments were provided at 3:00 AM, allowing them to recharge and rejuvenate their minds.

 

The participants continued their hard work and dedication, fuelled by their passion and determination to create impactful solutions. The final evaluation took place at 10:00 AM on 22nd April 2023. The evaluation panel comprised of Prof. Vivek Sehgal, the Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering/Information Technology, Dr.Yugal Kumar, Associate Professor & an esteemed IEEE mentor, and Dr. Shruti Jain, IEEE Brach Counsellor at JUIT.

 

After careful evaluation of all the projects, the winners were announced. Team Syntax Error secured the first position and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000 for their outstanding solution. Team Sigma secured the second position and received a cash prize of Rs. 3000. Team Matters secured the third position and won a cash prize of Rs. 2000. In addition to the cash prizes, the winners also received prize coupons and vouchers as a token of appreciation for their hard work and creativity.

 

The IEEE-JUIT SB 18-hour hackathon was a grand success, inspiring and motivating students to use their technical skills for social good. The IEEE-JUIT SB looks forward to organizing more such events in the future to foster innovation, creativity, and social responsibility among students.

The theme of the hackathon was "Global Issues: Country Perspectives", where participants had to choose any country and work on identifying and addressing the main issues faced by that country.
