UFPE Microwave Engineering Research Overview and IEEE MTT-S BRAZIL NORTHEAST CHAPTER SECTION CONTRIBUTION
The Microwave Laboratory and the Microwave Innovation Laboratory at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) are dedicated to the study, design, manufacture and characterization of high frequency devices, finding wide application in the field of telecommunications, energy, Industrial solutions, Sensors, Materials etc. Its activities range from teaching and guidance to research and development projects carried out in partnership with local and international companies, such as. Experiences with several partner companies: SIEMENS, Parks, CHESF, Neoenergia, Light, STN, TIM, etc. Highly specialized team with more than 20 years of successful projects, with several industrial patents carried out in partnership with companies, several articles published resulting from these partnerships, dissertations, theses, etc.
,
Having its own facilities in the Department of Electronics and Systems, the Microwave Laboratory and the Microwave Innovation Laboratory have a team made up of PhD professors with international experience, and collaborating doctors; and is equipped with the most modern equipment: network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, microwave generator, prototyping machine, communication analyzer, 3D laser machine, photolithography machine, metallization machine, etc.
Currently, laboratories are composed of design, simulation, manufacturing and measurement environments. Graduate Research Students can get involved in research and development projects with national and international companies. The laboratory offers opportunities for researchers and undergraduate, master's, doctoral and postdoctoral students in the fields of engineering and physics. Several types of problems arising from Business/Industrial demand are presented to our team, where a highly specialized team is formed for the development and solution of the problem, from investigation to industrial production.
We also talk in this presentationa bout the contributions of the IEEE MTT-S Brazil Northeast Section Chapter to research to the UFPE and to other research centers in the Northeast region
Biography:
He completed his undergraduate degree in Physics at the Federal University of Pernambuco-UFPE in 1983. In 1986, he completed his Postgraduate Degree in Applied Mathematics at the University of Pernambuco, focusing on Mechanical Equivalence of Electrical Circuits. Returning to UFPE, he completed his master’s degree in Physics in 1992 in the area of Microwave Absorption in Superconducting Samples. In 1997 he completed his doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Birmingham, England, focusing on superconducting microwave devices. In 1999, he joined the Photonics Group of the Department of Electronics and Systems of UFPE. Currently teaches undergraduate Electrical Engineering, Master's and Doctoral degrees in the Postgraduate Program in Electrical Engineering subjects such as Electromagnetism, Electromagnetic Propagation, Antennas, and Mathematical Methods for Engineering, Microwave, Microwave Devices, Electromagnetic Compatibility and Measurements. Microwave He was Visiting Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electrical Engineering of The Imperial College London during Feb 2012 to Feb 2013. He was a visiting professor at the Center Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya-Spain from 2019 to 2020. In 2019, he became a Full Professor at UFPE. He has two books published (one in England and the United States) and several works published in indexed international magazines and in national and international conferences, in Brazil and abroad. He Has 4 published patents with code 202 in NPI. He is a Senior member of IEEE (MTT-s and APS) and Brazilian society of microwaves and optoelectronics (SBMO). He has coordinated (or participated in) several R&D projects, national and multinational companies, and with funding institutions (more than 32 million reals or more than 8 million dollars). He was the General Chairman of the 16th IEEE-MTT SBMO International Microwave and Optoelectronics (IMOC2015). He is currently the General Chairman of the 20th IEEE-MTT SBMO International Microwave and Optoelectronics (IMOC 2023), and the IEEE MTT-S Chapter Chair - Bahia Section. His research area currently includes the design and manufacture of microwave frequency planar structures and general wireless systems such as resonators, filters, delay lines, instantaneous frequency meters, superconducting devices, RFID systems, smart antennas, transmission line, micro mechanized RF circuits (MEMS), High Frequency Sensors and Terahertz Systems, etc. (www.ufpe.br/laboratoriomicroondas).
