The IEEE Student Branch GUB, IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter GUB, and IEEE Power and Energy Society GUB, in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh chapter, successfully organized the Inauguration Ceremony 2023 on May 5, 2023. The event was held to appreciate the ex-executive committee members and welcome the new executive committee members. Around 60 students were present at the event.
The keynote speakers at the event were Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, SMIEEE, Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter, and Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, SMIEEE, Professor at the University of Dhaka. The special guests at the event were Professor Dr. ASM Shihavuddin, SMIEEE, Chairman of the Department of EEE, Professor Dr. Md. Saiful Azad, SMIEEE, Chairperson of the Department of CSE and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Green University of Bangladesh, and Professor Dr. Faizur Rahman, Treasurer of Green University of Bangladesh. Dr. Muhammad Aminur Rahman, SMIEEE, Associate Professor and Branch Counselor of the IEEE Student Branch GUB, was the session chair.
The inaugural speech was delivered by Dr. Molla Shahadat Hossain Lipu, SMIEEE, Associate Professor of the Department of EEE at Green University of Bangladesh and Advisor of the IEEE Power and Energy Society GUB. The first keynote speaker, Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, delivered his speech on Industry 5.0: Towards a sustainable, human-centric, and resilient industry. He shared that Industrial Revolution 5.0, also known as Industry 5.0, is the next phase of the industrial revolution that builds upon the advancements of Industry 4.0. It emphasizes the importance of human collaboration and interaction with machines to achieve more personalized and customized production. Industry 5.0 combines the capabilities of advanced technologies with the creativity and problem-solving skills of human beings to drive innovation and address complex challenges.
The second keynote speaker, Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, SMIEEE, Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter, started his keynote speech on Recency-Based Attention Network for Recommendation Generation. He shared different types of recommendation systems and said that students should focus on data collection for working on machine learning domains.
After the keynote speeches, the crests were handed over to the keynote speakers. Professor Dr. ASM Shihavuddin, SMIEEE, gave his valuable speech. Professor Dr. Md. Fayzur Rahman, Treasurer of Green University of Bangladesh, gave his valuable speech and said that students should organize more technical events, seminars, and workshops by IEEE. Professor Dr. Md. Saiful Azad, SMIEEE, Chairperson of the Department of CSE and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Green University of Bangladesh, said that it will be a great opportunity for the students to submit their research works in the upcoming STI 5.0 and do more technical events and set a target for achieving the best IEEE branch in Bangladesh.
The guests then handed over certificates to the ex-committee members and took a photo session. Finally, Dr. Muhammad Aminur Rahman, SMIEEE, branch counselor of the IEEE Student Branch GUB, provided a vote of thanks to all of the guests for their valuable time and the participants for arranging the program.
The event was a great success and it was a great opportunity for the students to learn about the latest trends in technology and to network with other students and professionals. The students are excited to be a part of the IEEE and they are looking forward to contributing to the IEEE community.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamsul Arefin of IEEE computer Society

Biography:
Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamsul Arefin is affiliated with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh. Earlier he was the head of the department. He received his Doctor of Engineering Degree in Information Engineering from Hiroshima University, Japan with support of the scholarship of MEXT, Japan. As a part of his doctoral research, Dr. Arefin was with IBM Yamato Software Laboratory, Japan. His research includes privacy preserving data publishing and mining, distributed and cloud computing, IoT and big data management, multilingual data management, semantic web, object oriented system development and IT for agriculture and environment.
He involved in different conferences, seminars and workshops as a keynote speaker, invited speaker, session chair, TPC Chair (ECCE 2017), Organizing Co-chair (ECCE 2019), Finance co-chair (NCICIT 2013) etc. He was the Editor in Chief of Computer Science and Engineering Research Journal (ISSN: 1990-4010) and is the Associate Editor of BCS journal of Computer and Information Technology (ISSN:2664-4592) and a reviewer of many international journals and conferences. Dr. Arefin has more than 100 referred publications in international journals, book series and conference proceedings. Dr. Arefin is a senior member of IEEE, Member of ACM, Fellow of IEB and BCS. Prof. Arefin involves /earlier involved in many professional activities such as Chairman of Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS) Chittagong Branch, Vice-President (Academic) of BCS National Committee and executive committee member of IEB Computer Engineering Division, Conference Coordinator of IEEE CS Bangladesh Chapter, Advisor, Bangladesh Robotic foundation. He was also a member of pre-feasibility study team of CUET IT Business Incubator, first campus based IT Business Incubator in Bangladesh. Dr. Arefin is an academic council member of CUET and Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST). He is / was an examination committee member of different universities including CUET, RUET, DUET, CU, KU, PSTU, NSTU, RSTU. He is also a selection committee member of CUET, BAIUST, PSTU, USTC, IIUC and FU. Dr. Arefin visited Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bhutan, Singapore, South Korea, Egypt, India, Saudi Arabia and China for different professional and social activities.

Biography:
Md. Abdur Razzaque (M'08, SM'12) is a Professor of Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Dhaka. He chaired 2021 and 2020 Executive Committees for IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter. He received his BS in Applied Physics and Electronics and MS in Computer Science from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1995 and 1996, respectively. He obtained a PhD in Computer Engineering from Kyung Hee University, South Korea in 2009. He worked for Green University of Bangladesh for different periods as Pro Vice Chancellor, Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering and Chairperson, Dept of CSE during 2016-2021. He was a research professor at Kyung Hee University, South Korea during 2010-2011. He worked as a visiting professor in Stratford University, Virginia, USA in 2017. He is the director of Green Networking Research Group (http://cse.du.ac.bd/gnr) of the Dept. of CSE, DU. He has been promoting Outcome Based Education for Science and Engineering Faculties of leading universities of the country. He lead many national and international funded research projects. His research interest is in the area of modeling, analysis and optimization of wireless networking protocols and architectures, Mobile Crowdsourcing, Sensor Data Clouds, Internet of Things, Edge Computing, etc. He has published 140+ research papers in peer-reviewed conferences and journals. He is offering editorial services to reputed journals and contributing to numerous international conferences at different capacities.
