🎙️| Who will give this session?

▶️| Ali Koubayssi

Ali Koubayssi completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Lebanese International University in 2014 and 2016, respectively. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. In 2015, he began working as a lab instructor at the same university. With over 10 research papers published in various IEEE conferences and journals, Eng. Koubayssi has also provided supervision and guidance for numerous undergraduate and graduate projects. He is an active member of the OEA and IEEE, specifically within the IEEE Power & Energy Society Membership (PES). Currently serving as the webmaster for the joint chapter, IE13/PE31/CAS04/PEL35 (CH08625), his research interests encompass fault detection, hybrid power system design, smart grids, and renewable energy systems.

⏺️| Topics to be discussed

In various everyday operations or industrial processes, the control of devices or physical quantities such as time, temperature, sound, and light is crucial to achieving the desired outcome. For instance, an airplane would not be useful to a pilot if they cannot navigate it as intended, and an air-conditioner would be ineffective if it cannot regulate the room temperature. These examples highlight the importance of process control.

This seminar will focus on the following:

• The distinction between manual and automatic control.
• The definition and role of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• An exploration of hard-wired relays.
• The advantages offered by PLCs compared to hard-wired relays.
• A comparison between PLCs and microcontrollers.
