IEEE The Rise of Microgrids in Healthcare Facilities
Microgrids at Healthcare facilities - Reducing the amount of green house gases from the 2nd largest emitter
Join us for a session on Energy Consumption and Green House Gases GHG for Health Care Facilities. Find out why Health Care inpatient facilities are one of the top consumers of energy and GHG emitters. Inpatient healthcare is ranked by the EPA as the second largest commercial energy user in the U.S. and is responsible for 8.5% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Yet, the industry has done little over the last decade to embrace sustainable, cost-effective energy solutions – until now. Over the past 12 months there have been significant developments in the healthcare industry. These include:
- An industry-wide commitment to net zero by 2050
- Proposed sustainability requirements from The Joint Commission
- CMS' recognition of microgrids as a form of emergency power
This session will explore the paradigm shift taking place in healthcare. In addition to the points above, common pitfalls and key considerations will be shared for stakeholders looking to implement microgrid solutions at healthcare facilities.
