Introduction:

The ICCE-TW 2023(2023/7/17-19)conference featured a special session  focused on Women in Engineering (WiE), with the theme "Research, Leadership, and Life Challenges in STEM" on 7/18 pm:16:00-16:40. This session aimed to facilitate sharing and discussions related to the experiences, challenges, and contributions of women researchers and leaders in the field of STEM. Prominent figures, including IEEE CTSoc WiE Chair Prof. Pei-Jun Lee and Prof. Shu Ming Tsai, were invited to be session chairs, making it a significant event. The session hosted over 30 attendees, encompassing not only female researchers but also the IEEE CTSoc president and male academic leaders.

 

Session Highlights:

Prof. Hsin-Hui Hu's Presentation:

Prof. Hsin-Hui Hu delivered a compelling presentation that highlighted the progression of women researchers' recognition over the past two decades. In her ten-minute talk, she discussed the increasing respect and acknowledgment of women's contributions in research and STEM fields globally. Her insights provided valuable context for the subsequent discussions.

 

Coffee Table Discussion - Empowering Women in STEM:

The session transitioned into a dynamic coffee table discussion format. Attendees engaged in a candid conversation on the topic of how women engineers and scientists can enhance teaching, research, and leadership roles. This segment allowed participants to share personal experiences, challenges faced, and their outlook for the future. The discussion served as a platform for exchanging ideas, strategies, and best practices.

 

IEEE CTSoc President Prof. Wen-Chung Kao's Address:

A particularly noteworthy moment was the involvement of IEEE CTSoc President Prof. Wen-Chung Kao. He graciously shared his commitment to considering strategies within the IEEE CTSoc to encourage greater participation of women researchers in its activities. His willingness to address this issue at the highest level of the organization signifies a positive step towards fostering gender diversity and inclusivity in the field.

 

Conclusion:

The ICCE-TW 2023 WiE Special Session focusing on "Research, Leadership, and Life Challenges in STEM" was a significant milestone in promoting gender diversity and empowerment in the STEM community.
