Computer Society Tech Horizons Summit
The Florida West Coast Section Computer Society Chapter, University of South Florida Computer Society Student Chapter, and Florida Polytechnic University Computer Society Student Chapter welcome you to the Tech Horizons Summit, to be held at the University of South Florida Campus on 15 September 2023 from noon to 5:00 PM.
The Tech Horizons Summit will feature industry and academic leaders from the complete arc of a computing career, covering trends, emerging technologies, challenges, research topics, professional development, and pedagogical approaches. Join speakers and panelists from Hillsborough and Pinelssas K-12 school districts, Hillsborough Community College, USF, Florida Polytechnic, IEEE Florida West Coast, and IEEE Computer Society. Our confirmed keynote speaker is IEEE Computer Society President Jyotika Athavale.
While there is no fee for attendance, registration is required. Same-day registration will be available at the door. Parking garage requires payment.

Jyotika Athavale of IEEE Computer Society
Emerging trends in computing and the role of the Computer Society
Biography:
Jyotika Athavale is an experienced leader and influencer in emerging technologies and international standardization initiatives. Currently a Director and Principal RAS Architect at Synopsys, Jyotika focuses on innovative architectures for Silicon Health and Lifecycle Management (R&D). Prior to Synopsys, she was Lead Technologist, Functional Safety Architecture at NVIDIA, driving capability development, safety architectures and methodologies, system safety engineering activities and pathfinding for safety critical systems. Prior to NVIDIA, Jyotika was Principal Engineer (Director) at Intel Corporation where she led corporate-wide RAS and Functional Safety methodologies and architectures for automotive, server and avionics use cases.
Jyotika is the 2023 President-Elect of the IEEE Computer Society, overseeing IEEE-CS programs and operations. She was awarded the IEEE Computer Society Golden Core Award in 2022. Jyotika also chairs the IEEE P2851 Standard on Functional Safety interoperability.
She has authored patents and many technical publications in various international conferences and journals. Jyotika received her MS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1996 from Iowa State University.

Biography:
Mohammad Reza Khalghani is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Florida Polytechnic University, FL. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University (WVU), Morgantown, WV, USA 2019. Dr. Khalghani's research interests lie in cyber-physical energy systems, specifically focusing on Renewable Energy Integration and resilient control design for microgrids. Throughout his career, Dr. Khalghani has been involved in multiple research and educational grants, leading and collaborating on joint efforts in the realm of cybersecurity.

Mubarak Banisakher of Hillsborough Community College
Modernizing Academic Programs with National Science Foundation Grants
Biography:
Dr. Mubarak Banisakher obtained his Master's and Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida. He has more than fifteen years of teaching experience in higher education. He has several years of experience in the telecommunication industry as an engineer. He also worked for the United Nations Peacekeeping operations (UNMOT) overseas. His research interest is in: Data Fusion technology, Big Data, Computer networks and security, Cloud computing, and Data Fusion in Disaster Management.

Biography:
Kevin Bommer, Incident Response Team Supervisor, Raymond James
I graduated from the University of Tampa in December 2017 with a bachelors of science in cybersecurity. I have been at Raymond James for over 5 1/2 years now. I started off as a vendor risk analyst and then became one of IT’s risk managers. Finally I joined the Cyber Threat Center last August where I am a supervisor for our cyber threat incident response team. I am responsible for ensuring our team is able to respond to cyber threat incidents within a timely manner to ensure we mitigate any potential impact to protect our associates and clients.
Thomas Carey, CTO, Microsoft
Thomas is bringing over 25 years of experience in the Information Technology field with a strong focus on Program Management and Technology Strategy. They hold a Master’s degree in Management of Information Systems from Florida State University and are currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Business Administration at Indiana Wesleyan University. Their track record includes creating strategic Technology Roadmaps that align with business objectives, and they have contributed to the innovation and growth of Fortune 500 companies such as General Motors, Wachovia/Wells Fargo, Microsoft, and SAIC.
Joe Blankenship, CDO, Certus Group
Joe Blankenship is a geographer and engineer with 17 years of data and analytics experience. Specializing in geographic information systems, financial systems, data operations, and electronic engineering, he has worked for and consulted with customers in the private, public, and defense sectors.
Antra Malhotra is a Senior Manager, Systems Engineering at Verizon. Her responsibilities include application development and software delivery for two big data platforms that provide intelligent location services, product availability and business intelligence for Verizon's Enterprise and Consumer Business groups. She has also had the opportunity to contribute and lead multiple significant programs, including system modernization, intelligent enterprise network, network virtualization and voice/voip transformation. Antra holds a Master's Degree in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. She is an AWS Certified Solutions Architect with additional program management and delivery certifications. She is a guest faculty at Hillsborough Community College - ICCE for teaching Cloud concepts and technologies. Her area of research involves cloud technologies, application stability and big data management. Her research work on zero downtime architecture was recently published in IEEE.

Dr. Jim Anderson

Dr. Anderson will moderate our Industry Leaders and our Student Leaders panels.
Biography:
Dr. Anderson has truly been there and done that. Along with over 20 years of first hand experience in the IT field solving real-world organizational problems, he has four college degrees including bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. degrees in Computer science as well as an MBA in Marketing.
Dr. Anderson either can’t hold a job or is well rounded – you decide. He has worked in engineering, program management, marketing, sales, and Sr. Management Positions. His experience has spanned many different industries including defense, telecommunications, retail, not-for-profit, cable, IT, independent consulting, and University teaching. In his spare time he has co-authored books and written numerous magazine articles and technical papers.
Much of Dr. Anderson’s career has been spend working in the middle of chaos. He has worked for many different large multi-national companies including Boeing, Siemens, Alcatel, and Verizon as well as multiple startups. Dr. Anderson confesses that he was on the front-line of the Dot Com adventure however he disavows any responsibility for how that whole thing turned out.
Most recently Dr. Anderson has been a professor in the Computer Science department at the University of South Florida.
