Topic:

Grand Rounds: How conditional probability helps a patient distraught from a surprise positive test result.

In this talk I will introduce (present) a patient, who, on his own,  has opted to have a medical test done. The test comes back positive, so now what does he do?

To get to the answer, we will learn how centuries of gambling experience led to the once denigrated science of probability and the introduction of conditional probability. I'll  show you how this recently rediscovered, deceptively simple algebraic relation can help our very scared patient. I will conclude with some solid recommendations for his future behavior.
