We are pleased to invite you to IEEE Ottawa Section's 79th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Awards Ceremony, and Banquet.  

AGM 
The AGM is an annual forum for Members of the IEEE Ottawa Section to attend and learn about the Section activities over the past year as well as the plan for the upcoming year. It is also where the IEEE Ottawa Section Nominations and Appointments Committee will propose and present to the members the nominees for the 2024 IEEE Ottawa Officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary).

Note that this is the only part of the event restricted to IEEE Ottawa members only.

Time: 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm EST (AGM Business and Election)

Awards Ceremony
The Awards Ceremony is an annual event that provides an opportunity for recognizing and honouring outstanding local industry, individuals from academia and industry, and IEEE groups from the IEEE Ottawa Section.

Banquet
The dinner portion of this event offers an opportunity to meet and share ideas with academia and industry leaders, and gain inspiration from our keynote speaker. 

This event sells out every year and attracts 120+ people from academia, industry, and government. In addition to a great agenda, there will be plenty of time allotted for socializing, networking and enjoying a night of entertainment.

It is open for IEEE members, guests, and public (registration is needed - please see below)

          6:30 pm - 10:00 pm EST (Opening, Dinner, Keynote, Awards Ceremony, Entertainment, Networking). Detailed program in the agenda below.

Dinner:

A three course dinner will be served as part of this banquet.   You will be asked to select your menu option and to indicate any dietary restrictions as part of your registration.

Carrot and Fennel: Roasted Carrot and Fennel Soup with Älska Farm Maple Soy Glazed Mushrooms and Toasted Pumpkin Seed Cream (Vegetarian, Gluten Free, and Halal)

Main Course Menu Options:

  • Sold Out!  Blue Mountain Beef Short Rib Bourguignon: 48 Hour Braised Beef Short Rib with Baby Carrot, Cipollini Onion, Fingerling Potato Confit, Wild Mushroom, and Red Wine Demiglace  (Gluten Free)
  • Sustainable Fogo Island Cod: Truffle Crusted Cod with Sweet Pea and Wild Northern Pink Shrimp Polenta, Braised Bay Vegetables, and Dill Oil (Gluten Free, Halal)

Parking is not provided. Please use Shaw Center parking (at an extra cost usually 20CAD) or nearby city parking services such as Ottawa City Hall (110 Laurier Ave W, Ottawa, ON K1R 6K9)

Marc Levesque Marc Levesque of Communications Research Centre (CRC) Canada

Topic:

Wireless Spectrum - from finite to infinite

Biography:

Marc Levesque was appointed President of the Communications Research Centre (CRC) Canada in April of 2023. Previously to this, he held consecutive senior executive leadership roles within CRC from 2015 to 2020, where he served as VP Internal, VP of Wireless Technologies, and VP of Applications and Performance, leading and overseeing CRC’s research teams as well as key strategic initiatives in outreach, co-operative education, and leadership development. In 2020, Marc was selected to join ISED’s Connecting Canadians Branch to help launch and oversee the Universal Broadband Fund as Executive Director. Prior to joining the public service, Marc gained extensive private sector experience serving as Global Account Manager/Director with Altera for 15 years, a role that included managing a global team and setting vision and strategy for the company. He brings exceptional leadership skills, significant industry experience, and a commitment to CRC’s vision and mission to his role as President. Marc is an Electrical Engineer (B. Eng., University of New Brunswick, 1995) with a Master’s degree in Engineering Management (M. Eng., University of Ottawa, 2003). He is fully bilingual and is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario. He lives with his family in Ottawa.
