YOUNG PROFESSIONALS - Celebration and Networking

Our IEEE Rochester Section Joint Chapters Meeting (JCM) is focused on Young Professionals (first college degree within the last 15 years).  All are encouraged and welcome to attend.

There will be something for members of all ages:

Students will have a window into life after graduation!

Young Professionals can meet, share experiences, and hear perspectives from Micro-Mentors!

Mid-Career Professionals can meet rising stars, network, and recruit new talent!

Late-Career Professionals can be inspired and energized by the next generation and meet younger professionals.

 Please register to receive your RIT Parking pass.

We will begin with four 30-minute career-related, personal perspectives presentations.

After a Networking Break, we will have three skill/informational presentations.

  1. Personal Effectiveness
  2. Financial Planning
  3. Skills and Mentors Panel Discussion

Our Mentors will host short (5-10 minute) discussions with small groups during our Micro-Mentoring Reception.

Our program concludes with a buffet dinner and Keynote Address.

Career Perspectives

Our first four distinguished speakers will introduce their employers and share their career perspectcives. 

Biography:

Dr. Divya Ramjee Dr. Divya Ramjee is an Assistant Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as a Fellow in the International Security Program and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She also a decade's worth of experience in the federal government, working on issues related to national and international security. Dr. Ramjee's research work focuses on cybersecurity and emerging technologies, public policy, and methodology.

Dr. Ramjee will broadly discuss issues regarding the societal dangers, security considerations, and limitations of LLMs and generative AI and tie in some of my ongoing research.

John Zarb is the Client Engagement Director for Anterix, which is building the foundation for smart infrastructure, smart cities and smart communities. Anterix is focused on delivering transformative broadband that enables the modernization of critical infrastructure for energy, transportation, logistics and others. At Anterix, we are uniquely positioned to enable the solutions that support secure, resilient and customer‑controlled operations.

Dr. Juniyali Nauriyal is Co-Founder & CEO of Photonect Interconnect Solutions, Soldering for photonics and revolutionizing how you send light into your chips.

Dr. Shelby Nelson is co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Mosaic Microsystems. A semiconductor device physicist, she has worked at AT&T Bell Labs, IBM’s T. J. Watson Research Center, Colby College, Xerox Corporation, and the Kodak Research Labs prior to Mosaic. She has authored over 40 refereed journal articles and holds over 65 patents. In this presentation she will tell you about Mosaic Microsystems, and the exciting world of Advanced Packaging for semiconductors. Mosaic manufactures thin glass substrates for 5G/6G applications and beyond here in Rochester.  In addition, however, she will describe a bit about her path from research science, through academia, to entrepreneurship.

Biography:

Kelly Robinson, PE, PhD has over 40 years of industrial experience solving manufacturing problems and commercializing new products. Kelly is Professional Engineer (NYS) and founded Electrostatic Answers, an engineering consulting company dedicated to eliminating injury and waste from static electricity, which has served over 100 clients including many Fortune 500 companies.

Jason Duga has been a financial advisor for over 23 years. He is passionate about helping clients pursue their financial goals. It is his mission to help clients plan and prepare for their retirement and ensure they have the resources needed later in life.

Jason graduated from The University of Rochester majoring in Economics with a minor in Finance. He also holds his Series 7 Securities License, Series 66 Securities License through LPL Financial, and Life Accident and Health Insurance License.

He currently resides in Webster with his wife, their three daughters, Sienna, Julia, Olivia, and dog Luna. In their free time, you’ll find Jason and his family spending time at their cottage on Cross Lake, Hiking, Cross Country Skiing, and visiting National Parks.

Biography:

Mike Bartle (Working with Others) founded Empire Tech Solutions and is a Sales Engineer.

Gilda DeDona (Being Open to New Opportunities) is a Process and Quality Engineer at the Eastman Kodak Company.

Dr. William Fowlkes (Patents) consults at IP.com, a software and services company that provides innovation solutions for the Intellectual Property and engineering communities.  Prior to that, Dr. Fowlkes worked for the Eastman Kodak Company as an Intellectual Property technology leader supporting Kodak’s patent related activities from IP generation to value extraction.  He is an inventor on 32 U.S. patents; he is also co-author of Engineering Methods for Robust Product Design, Addison-Wesley Publishing Company.

Dave Glocker (Communication) Holds B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics. In 1993 he founded Isoflux Incorporated to design and manufacture specialty coating equipment and he served as CEO and CTO until he retired in 2016. Prior to starting Isoflux, he taught at RIT for several years and from there went to the Eastman Kodak Company where he became a group leader in the Research Labs.

James Buduson, L3Harris - Keynote Speaker

Mr. Buduson will offer his perspectives on his education, his transistion from academia to employment, and offer an overivew of his current work.

Biography:

James Buduson is a graduate from Monroe Community College (MCC) and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), receiving his Associates in Engineering Science and Bachelors in Electrical Engineering respectively. James is currently a Systems Engineer at L3Harris Technologies Tactical Communication Division, where he works on a large range of projects. His work largely features RF analysis which has led to 4 U.S. Patent filings as an inventor. This past year he was recognized as the 2022 Kate Gleason Young Engineer of the Year – Finalist by the Rochester Engineering Society (RES).
