Inauguration Ceremony of IEEE Student Branch Budge Budge Institute Of Technology


On the 18th of August, 2023, an auspicious and meaningful event unfolded at the Seminar Hall of Budge Budge Institute of Technology (BBIT), as the IEEE Student Branch Budge Budge Institute of Technology was officially inaugurated. This monumental event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Chair of IEEE Kolkata Section, was further enriched by a captivating special talk delivered by Dr. Suvadeep Choudhury, an accomplished expert from the University of Pisa, Italy on the topic "Recent Advancements in Antenna Design". The event commenced at 11:00 AM and continued until 1:00 PM, with the Seminar Hall adorned with the enthusiasm of students, faculty members, and dignitaries alike. The welcome address was given by Sanskar Gupta, Chair, IEEE Student Branch BBIT followed by MS.Kakali sengupta das, HoD ECE, BBIT. The Honourable Chairman, Director, Principal, Dean(R&D), and Dean (Student Welfare) addressed the event. The Event was Managed by the IEEE SB Co-ordinators and Volunteers of the IEEE SB Budge Budge Institute of Technology. The vote of Thanks was given by Prof.Deepak Kumar Nayak, IEEE SB Counselor Budge Budge Institute of Technology.

Inauguration of IEEE Student Branch

Prof. (Dr.) Bhaskar Gupta, a respected figure in the field of technology and academia, took center stage as the Chief Guest for the IEEE Student Branch BBIT inauguration ceremony. As the Vice Chair of IEEE Kolkata Section, his presence added an air of authority and inspiration to the proceedings. Dr. Gupta's address revolved around the importance of fostering innovation, collaboration, and leadership among students through IEEE's esteemed platform.

Biography:

Bhaskar Gupta was born in Kolkata, India, in 1960. He received the B.E.Tel.E., M.E.Tel.E., and Ph.D. degrees from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India in 1982, 1984 and 1996 respectively. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications Department, Jadavpur University, where he has been teaching since 1985. He has supervised 25 doctoral dissertations and is presently guiding 17 more. He has published more than 350 research articles in refereed journals and conferences and coauthored three books on advanced research topics. His present area of interest is planar antennas, wearable antennas, dielectric resonator antennas, biological effects of RF radiation on plants, RF MEMS and application of soft computing techniques in microwave engineering and antennas. Dr. Gupta is a Fellow of IETE, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and a Life Member of SEMCE(I). He was the Chairman of AP-MTT Joint Chapter, IEEE Calcutta Section; Chairman, Students’ Activities and Vice-Chair, IEEE Calcutta Section. Presently, he is Chair, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Division, WB State Centre of Institution of Engineers (India). He serves as Referee in different internationally acclaimed journals and as Guest Editor to the Asian Journal of Physics. Further, he successfully completed 12 research projects sponsored by various agencies and is currently working on seven more, including national and international collaborative projects. He was the Chairman, West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board from 2011 to 2015. He served DFCCIL and Railtel Corporation, both Government of India PSUs, as Independent Director for more than three years in each case. He has been named in the 2009 edition of Marquis Who’s Who in the World.

Dr. Suvadeep Choudhury, hailing from the University of Pisa, Italy, graced the event as the esteemed guest speaker. His talk, titled "Recent Advancements in Antenna Design," delved into the fascinating realm of antenna technology. Dr. Choudhury's expertise captivated the audience as he shed light on the cutting-edge developments in the field, emphasizing the role of antennas in modern communication systems.

Biography:

Dr. Suvadeep Choudhury received his M.Tech from The University of Burdwan where he was awarded the University Gold medal in 2013. During his M.Tech, he was associated with the Microwave Tubes Research and Development Center, DRDO, Bengaluru. Subsequently, he earned his Ph.D. degree in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engg. from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Thereafter, he worked as Technical Lead in the R&D wing of HCL Tech. Pvt. Ltd., and as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at IIT Kharagpur, jointly with SAC, ISRO, before joining The LNMIIT as an Assistant Professor. Currently, he is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Information Engineering, University of Pisa, ITALY, on-lien from The LNMIIT Jaipur, INDIA. Dr. Suvadeep expertise in design and development of low profile and high gain antennas. He has published several journals and conferences of repute and serves as an active reviewer of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, IEEE Access, IEEE Microwave and Wireless Component Letters, etc, to name a few. He is currently a Senior Member of URSI, Member of IEEE, and Life Member of IETE.
