LV WIE Upcoming Talk on Deadline-Influenced Quality Issues
We are pleased to host expert speaker Robert Peruzzi, who will address a topic which is of crucial importance to every engineer. This talk is eligible for 1 PDH hour.
Topic: Deadline-Influenced Quality Issues
This presentation aims to show how overemphasizing schedule deadlines can lead to quality issues which result in legal issues because of lost revenue, business failures, personal injuries, and legal issues. The presentation begins with an overview of project scheduling and the importance of setting realistic deadlines. Project scheduling is taught in engineering and business school curricula. The importance of deadlines is reinforced in business journals as is the importance of product quality. A product may be a service, software, or a physical item.
It would be a gross oversimplification to say that product quality, or project safety, versus schedule deadlines, is the only trade-off in project execution. And yet in certain cases, including the cases of this presentation, the individuals involved made decisions resulting in compromised quality or safety which led to legal actions. Several case studies are discussed, including product quality, and personal injury lawsuits.
