Harnessing Ansys Systems Tool Kit (STK) for Complex Orbital Mechanics Simulations
Title: Harnessing Ansys Systems Tool Kit (STK) for Complex Orbital Mechanics Simulations
Speaker: Mr Joel Thakker (LEAP Australia)
When: Wednesday, September 13, 2023 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
This is an online event via MS Teams.
Abstract:
A comprehensive overview of Ansys Systems Tool Kit (STK) and its application in the field of orbital mechanics simulations for complex systems. Ansys STK is a physics-based orbital modelling environment, the premier tool used by researchers and engineers worldwide for analysing various platforms and payloads in an accurate mission context.
The presentation will guide you through the journey of modelling and simulating complex systems within their operational environment. We will delve into how to construct or import precise models of assets across ground, sea, air, and space using STK, and assemble these to represent existing or proposed systems. We'll demonstrate how to generate a real-time dynamic 3D simulation incorporating high-resolution terrain, imagery, and RF environments.
We will describe the integration of component and system-level modelling, crucial for those working with space applications and urban environments, demonstrating an end-to-end workflow - starting from the component-level modelling of an antenna to its system-level integration onto a satellite. We will also elaborate on using Ansys STK for digital mission support for satellites in orbit, and demonstrate an advanced radar analysis utilizing actual RCS data from an HFSS aircraft model.
Speaker profile: Joel Thakker has MSc in Aerodynamics & CFD, BSc in Astronautics, and is now the Senior Engineering Solutions Manager from LEAP Australia. In a career that started in the US space industry nearly 20 years ago, through to engineering roles in the UK and now Australia, Joel has been an active agent in promoting and using numerical modelling (or simulation) for subsea-, ground-, airborne-, naval- and space- platforms. A background in astrodynamics, coupled with fluid mechanics and aerodynamics, has allowed him to work with global corporations and start-ups alike, providing solutions that work in a multi-physics environment, for multi-disciplinary teams. Today, he manages the Mission Engineering and Thermofluids (CFD) business units at LEAP Australia, providing solutions to customers across Australia and New Zealand.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the meeting or the process, please don't hesitate to reach out to Dr Lily Qiao (l.qiao@adfa.edu.au). I'm here to assist and provide any clarification you may need.
