Fairleigh Dickinson University 5th Annual Cybersecurity Symposium
New Jersey State Cybersecurity Education Innovation Summit
You are cordially invited to attend this free event to learn about the state of cybersecurity education and specially about the new RING curriculum. The RING curriculum was developed for K-12 teachers and students and is being introduced in NJ to create a pipeline of cyber professionals to defend our nation. Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) has been hosting one-day cybersecurity symposium since 2013 and this will be the 5th in that series.
Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) President, Dr. Michael Avaltroni will inaugurate the 2023 symposium at the Lenfell Hall in the Florham Campus of FDU.
Keynote speakers from various NJ State departments (e.g., Labor, Homeland security, etc.) will describe education and training opportunities extended to the students and citizens to become part of the cyber workforce defending our nation.
The NJ Centers for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) institution leadership will be introduced and the CAE news will be provided by a NSA leader.
We thank the Education Pahway National Center (EPNC) at Morraine valley Community College (MVCC) for partially funding this symposium. EPNC leadership will provide brief historical background of K-12 cybersecurity education.
Lunch will be provided.
Afternoon session will focus on the new package of cyber coursework known as RING developed for K-12 teachers and students will be introduced. The RING curriculum was developed at the University of Alabama, Huntsville and is being introduced in various K-12 school districts in the mid-western states. Teachers and students willing to participate in the afternoon RING training workshop must bring their own laptops to follow the instructor-led discussions.
Student poster presentations, judging, and prize distribution will end the event. The prizes for the poster competition are sponsored by the IEEE North Jersey Section Student Activities Council (SAC).
Details on the Poster Competition:
The organizing committee is currently inviting graduate/undergraduate students to prepare a poster presentation on any cybersecurity topic to compete in a poster competition. Finalists will be asked to show case and discuss their topic(s) with Symposium attendees during the afternoon student presentation session. This will serve as an excellent platform and opportunity to network for future collaborative research and career advancement. Three outstanding posters will receive 2023 IEEE North Jersey Section Student Activity Poster Awards.
