Intro to NSF eCAT: Center for Electric, Connected and Autonomous Technologies for Mobility
Dallas Section Communications/Vehicular Technology Meeting - September 19, 2023
Dallas IEEE Communication and/or Vehicular Society member, (aka Dallas CVT)
I am sending you this email as the current Chair of the Dallas CVT (your local IEEE section) with a short update. We have resumed our regular section meetings focused on technical talks. These meetings are again in-person and are typically held at 12:00 PM on the Third Tuesday of the month during the months of September to December and January to May, except as noted. We continue to hold our meetings on the University of Texas at Dallas campus, https://www.utdallas.edu/. As in the past, lunch is planned (while the menu varies, this is a ‘hot meal’, sorry logistics prevent us from adjusting for special needs or diets – we don’t have the staff to accommodate these requests). We do request an RSVP no later than the Friday prior to the meeting in IEEE vTools to reserve a meal (we have to preorder and an accurate head count is necessary). You can also pre-pay via vTools!
Here is a link to vTools: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/. Each meeting will have a separate vTools record once the vTools meeting is created, you may have to do a bit of a ‘search’ to find the specific meeting. Dallas CVT is a good key word to use.
IEEE members who are in either ComSoc or Vehicle society members and in the IEEE Dallas Section will receive automated emails via vTools (provided they have not enabled ‘do-not contact’ in their profile) with information about our meetings and links to register for lunch. Sorry IEEE vTools does not accommodate the ability for us to supplement the list.
Our board works hard to arrange the technical speakers for these meetings, and we invite our members to attend whenever their schedule allows. The website below is active and reflects our current and past speakers: https://r5.ieee.org/dallas-cvt/
We would like to invite you to consider attending one of our upcoming technical talks and the board welcomes any reply or comment, our emails are below.

A brief introduction of eCAT:
The Center for Electric, Connected and Autonomous Technologies for Mobility (eCAT) was officially approved and supported by the US National Science Foundation in March 2023.
eCAT’s mission is to develop and deploy next-generation electrification, resilient sensing/perception, real-time edge computing, and smart infrastructure techniques to achieve higher safety and efficiency, aiming to initiate and accelerate the transformation of mobility methods from conventional vehicles to electric, connected, and autonomous vehicles by creating essential and innovative technologies.
The Center’s strategic directions include:
• Connected and Autonomous Vehicles
• Infrastructure
• Mobility Solutions
More information regarding the Center can be found at https://www.ecat.center/.
There are a range of advantages for Center members including limiting university research project overhead to 10%, access to the students, faculty, and facilities at the participating universities, connection to other industry members, industry defining research roadmap, and many more.
In addition to UNT, the Center’s university partners include Wayne State University (Detroit, MI), the University of Delaware (Newark, DE), and Clarkson University (Potsdam, NY). More universities are planning to join the Center.
