Invited Talk Program
The IEEE EDS Nepal Chapter organized a Distinguished Lecture program in Kathmandu on 5th September, 2023. The EDS DL was Prof. Chandan Kumar Sarkar, Jadavpur University, Kolkata India. The title of his presentation was “75 Anniversary of Invention of Transistor”.
The program was started at 7:00PM. Before the delivery of his talk, EDS Nepal Chapter Chair Prof. Bhadra Pokharel presented the EDS overview slides, IEEE EDS Chapter Treasure Dr. Sanju Shrestha read the short resume of Prof. Sarkar and the abstract of his presentation. The talk was very interesting containing both historical part of development and research part of advanced nano-transistor from micro level transistor. The EDS overview slides became very much interested to those students who were unknown about IEEE and EDS and made them curious.
According to Prof. Sarkar, the present talk describes the historical development of transistors over the last 75 years. The development starts from the invention of vacuum devices such as vacuum diode and then multi-electrode devices such as vacuum triode etc. Till 1948 when first solid state devices based on semiconductors were invented called transistors. It revolutionized Electronics. Since then tremendous development took place. In last few years, we achieved nano-level from micro level transistors.
Total participant in the program were 19, among them 14 were IEEE members and 5 were non IEEE students and faculty. Large number of questions were asked to Prof. Sarkar. He answered all questions satisfying the queries of the participants so that the program ended only at 9:00PM.
