El IEEE Day se celebra mundialmente el primer martes de octubre, recordando la primera sesión técnica realizada por miembros del AIEE en octubre de 1884. El AIEE, American Institute of Electrical Engineers (1884) y el IRE, Institute of Radio Engineers (1912), se fusionaron en 1963 dando origen al IEEE.
El 4 de octubre de 1939, a pedido de sus socios de Argentina, el IRE aprobó la creación de la Sección Buenos Aires del IRE, que en 1963 pasó a ser la actual Sección Argentina del IEEE.
Para celebrar ambas fechas, el próximo martes 03 de octubre de 2023 nos reuniremos en la Sede Medrano de la Facultad Regional Buenos Aires de la Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN BA) con el siguiente programa de actividades:

* * * IEEE Friend of MGA Award otorgado a la UTN BA
El IEEE otorga el "Friend of IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Award" en reconocimiento al apoyo brindado al IEEE y a sus miembros, en pro de sus objetivos.
En el caso de UTN BA la mencion es "For generous, continuous, and sustainable support of IEEE activities in Argentina over many years".
La presencia del IEEE en la UTN BA se remonta a 1986 con la creación de su Rama Estudiantil, a la que se sumaron sus Capítulos Estudiantiles en años posteriores.
Entre las numerosas actividades realizadas, son de destacar dos Reuniones Nacionales de Ramas Estudiantiles, en 2005 y 2018, que contaron con participantes de Ramas de todo el país, y la edición 2016 de IEEE ARGENCON, el Congreso Técnico bienal de la Sección Argentina, que convocó a 400 participantes de Argentina y del extranjero.

"Healthcare Innovation and Entrepreneurship"
This talk will provide an intensive and practical introduction to the process of understanding significant unmet medical needs and designing new medical technologies to address them.
We focus on strategies for understanding and interpreting clinical needs, performing market assessments, and designing two basic prototypes in the areas of Cancer Brain Chip and Implantable Brain System.
Professor Metin Akay
He received his BS. and MS. in Electrical Engineering from the Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey in 1981 and 1984, respectively and a PhD. degree from Rutgers University in 1990.
He is currently the founding chair of the new Biomedical Engineering Department and the John S. Dunn professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Houston.
He played a key role in promoting biomedical education in the world by writing and editing several books, editing several special issues | of prestigious journals, including the Proceedings of the IEEE, and giving more than hundred keynote, plenary and invited talks at international conferences, symposiums and workshops regarding emerging technologies in biomedical engineering.
He currently serves as the President Elect of IEEE EMBS, Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.
