On October 12th at 7 pm, IEEE SIGHT AG NSSCE in association with IEEE SB NSSCE organized a session on "Climate Resilient Livelihood for Women : Promoting Sustainable Economics Opportunities" as part of the SUSTAINIA-Empowering Communities For a Sustainable Future initiative. The session was led by Rushali Thakkar, Vice Chair of Women in Engineering Bombay Section.
During the session, students were given a detailed overview of the connection between climate change and gender. The discussion covered the effects of climate change on women and girls, the importance of implementing climate change practices, practical solutions, opportunities, and case studies that demonstrated successful climate-resilient livelihoods for women. The session began by examining the relationship between climate change and gender and emphasized that women are  often disproportionately affected by climate impacts. The significance of recognizing and addressing these disparities was also highlighted. Participants were informed about the specific challenges women and girls face due to climate change, including increased vulnerability, reduced access to resources, and heightened health and safety risks. The session emphasized the need to adopt climate change mitigation and adaptation practices urgently. It also highlighted women's critical role in sustainable development and the need to empower them to address climate-related challenges. The session explored various solutions to empower women to face climate change, ranging from advocating for gender-inclusive climate strategies to ensuring women's access to climate-resilient technologies. The session featured interactive elements, including Q&A sessions encouraging students to actively participate and share their perspectives on the topics discussed. Students left the session with a heightened awareness of the gendered impact of climate change and a deeper understanding of the importance of gender-inclusive climate action. They were inspired to take action in their own lives and communities to promote climate resilience and gender equity. In conclusion, the session provided students with valuable insights, practical knowledge, and
inspiration to address the complex challenges at the intersection of climate change and gender, empowering them to be agents of change in building a more resilient and equitable future.
