Rao)” (1914–2003) was an Indian scientist and founder of Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Dr.Rao represented India at many international conferences on scientific development including UN conferences on peaceful uses of atomic energy. He also served on the editorial and advisory boards of many scientific journals including many international journals of repute.
The following are the recognitions he received for his services to the nation:
- Padma Shri Award in 1960
- Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award for Engineering Sciences in 1965,
- Doctor of Science degree, honoris causa, from Andhra University in 1969,
- Padma Bhushan in 1972.
- Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences in 1974,
- FICCI Award for outstanding achievement in Engineering in 1976, *National design Award from Institution of Engineers (India) in 1977,
- Outstanding Scientist Award from A.P. Academy of Science in 1988, Prof.
- Nayudamma Memorial Gold Medal in 1989.
- A.S.Rao Nagar (near ECIL) in Secunderabad was named in his honor
- Postal stamp was released on 16 November 2014 on the occasion of his birth centenary.
Considering his services and contributions to the nation in the area of engineering sciences it was proposed to organize a lecture in his memory every year, during the month of September or October. This is the first flagship event of IES Chapter. “The vision of the initiation of this lecture is to advance global prosperity by fostering technological innovation, enabling members' careers and promoting community worldwide”.
"The mission of this lecture is to promote the engineering process of creating, developing, integrating, sharing and applying knowledge about electronic and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession”.
We invite Industry Professionals, Young Professionals / Faculty in Academic Institutions and Research Scholars/ Students.
The lecture covered very interesting challanges in Emobility sector like:
1.Today Scenario of EVs in India
2. Battery Technology
3. Control Techniques for EVs
4. Typical Performnce factors of Tesla and Other EVs in Market.

Abstract of the above Lecture:
***************************
Due to the effects of global warming and climate change visualized in the last few decades, we are forced to adopt renewable based electricity generation, energy conservation measures and to promote battery driven electric vehicles (EVs). Until 2019-20, only 1.6 lakh EVs were registered in India. Within a matter of 3 years, it has grown to 2.8 million. The major bottlenecks for adopting EVs are (i) the range of the vehicle (ii) battery technology and safety (iii) developing and installing battery charging infrastructure and (iv) availability of materials for developing motors for the powertrain. This talk will dwell on each of these aspects by exploring the latest technological developments and strive to answer the question posed in the title.
