Introduction:

The IEEE SRMCEM Student Branch organised a Speech Competition to commemorate the birthday anniversary of two eminent leaders, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. The competition aimed to provide a platform for 1st-year and 2nd-year students to reflect on the lives and legacies of these great leaders and engage in meaningful discourse.

Competition Overview:

The Speech Competition encouraged students to explore the lives and philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. It allowed participants to articulate their thoughts on how the principles of these leaders remain relevant in today's world.

Key Highlights:

  1. Youthful Participation: The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 1st-year and 2nd-year students. It was heartening to see the enthusiasm and awareness of these young participants.

Inspiring Topics: Participants addressed a variety of themes, such as Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence, truth, and civil disobedience, Lal Bahadur Shastri's simplicity and leadership during the Green Revolution and the 1965 Indo-Pak War, and the enduring relevance of their teachings in contemporary society.

  3. Diverse Perspectives: The speeches represented diverse perspectives and interpretations of the leaders' legacies, demonstrating the students' critical thinking skills and ability to connect these historical figures to modern issues.

  4. Judging Panel: An esteemed panel of judges, consisting of faculty members and senior IEEE members, evaluated the speeches based on content, delivery, and the ability to convey the leaders' principles.

Winners and Awards:

After the competition, the best speeches were acknowledged, and awards were presented to the top participants to recognise their well-researched and thoughtful contributions.

Conclusion:

The Speech Competition the IEEE SRMCEM Student Branch organised was enlightening. It allowed students to share their insights and perspectives on two iconic leaders. Also, it reminded them of the timeless values and principles Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri upheld.

The competition underscored that even in the age of technology and rapid advancements, the philosophies of truth, non-violence, simplicity, and leadership continue to resonate with young minds. The students' speeches demonstrated that these principles are not mere historical artefacts but essential to addressing contemporary challenges.

This event was a testament to the intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills of the Shri Ramswaroop College of Engineering and Management students.
