Josi of Alaska Energy Authority
The Alaska Energy Authority was created in 1976 by the Alaska Legislature. It is a public corporation of the State of Alaska governed by a board of directors with the mission to “reduce the cost of energy in Alaska.” AEA is the state’s energy office and lead agency for statewide energy policy and program development. AEA became involved with EVs when the agency was designated as the lead agency to administer the State of Alaska’s share of the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust funds in 2018. Since then, AEA has developed the Alaska Electric Vehicle Working Group, and has adopted a secondary mission to lead the effort to minimize barriers to EV adoption in Alaska. AEA manages The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program that was established when the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill was signed into law in November of 2021.
Biography:
- Josi Hartley is the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program Manager at the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA). Josi has been a member of the AEA team for four years as a program manager in the renewable energy group and has worked with a variety of technologies including Wind, Solar, Energy Efficiency, Rural Power Generation, and Nuclear Energy. Most recently, her focus within the agency has shifted to Electric Vehicles. She was a member of the team that developed the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Implementation Plan for the State of Alaska. Josi received her bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. After graduating from UAF she went to work for BP in Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope, and in Anchorage as a Drilling Engineer. After five years with BP, Josi decided to transition into the renewable energy industry and joined the AEA team as the Wind Program Manager.
