Industrial Visit to National Load Dispatch Centre(NLDC)
On 9th October IEEE NSUT organized an industrial visit to the National Load Dispatch Centre with faculty in-charge Anuradha Tomar ma'am. This visit aimed to assist upcoming Instrumentation and Control Engineering (ICE) and Electrical Engineering (EE) mainstream professionals. It began with a presentation that provided an overview of the working of NLDC and PowerGrid India, which included the different divisions the centre has at the state and regional levels in operational and control authority. This provided a brief understanding of the electricity market of India and their objective of power optimization. Along with this, it proposed that Indian PowerGrid being the largest in the world has room for new innovations in power dispatch control systems.
Attendees were shown the control room at the NLDC centre, in which the transmission capacity and real-time power computing for different regions and states of the country were displayed and discussed. They were also introduced to the fast, real-time software that displayed network lines with actual power consumption numbers. All of the questions were answered with thorough explanations using the subject's foundational concepts with examples from the actual market.
The visit encouraged attendees to explore ICE and EE as mainstream career options, helped students to understand the power system through practical analysis and delve into exciting opportunities such as in NLDC. The visit also encouraged the learner in each participant to go deeper into the ideas as they could now see how they could be utilised in the real world, sparking an idea for innovation in this area. With enthusiastic response and high participation, the visit proved to be a success.
