Biography:
Janaka Ekanayake is the Head of the Department and the Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. He is also a visiting professor at the Institute of Energy at Cardiff University. Prior to that, until end of October 2012, he was a Senior Research Fellow/Reader at the Institute of Energy, Cardiff University, UK.
He is a Senior Member of IEEE, USA. He is also a Fellow of IET, UK and IESL, Sri Lanka.
Prof. Ekanayake is an expert on wind power generation, their connection and modern power systems. He co-authored five books published by leading publishers such as John Wiley and IET, UK. His most recent book on Renewable Energy will be published by Cambridge Press in this year. He has also published more than 150 journal and conference papers.
He was a Tyndall Center Research Fellow (2002 and 2003), Commonwealth Fellow (2001-2002), and a Royal Society of UK Research Fellow (1997) at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and technology (UMIST), UK.
His professional involvements include, a member of the editorial board of IEEE Transaction on Energy Conversion (2007 to date), IET journal of Renewable Energy (2015 to date) and Journal of Wind Energy (2013 to date); Organising Vice Chairperson of the First IEEE PES conference of Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (2012); Editor in Chief of the Sixth IEEE International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (2011); Organising Chairperson of the Second IEEE International Conference on Sustainable Energy Technologies (2010); and General Chair of the Second International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (2007). He is involved in many ADB and Cupper organisation funded energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart grid related consultancy assignments. He has contributed to write wind connection codes for Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
