Eureka is the annual freshers’ event held by IEEE NITK, where the first years are given a glimpse into the club and its activities, in a fun format and access. Each year, the 2nd year students of the three SIGs organise activities that line up with their areas of interest with fun twists like KSS and competitions. 

A summary of the activities are presented below

1) CompSoc

    a) KSS - Introduction to Machine Learning

  • Date: 13th November 2023, 7:45PM - 9:00 PM
  • Mode: Offline - Seminar Hall, CSE Department, NITK
  • Turnout: 107
  • Introducing ML, its applications and the different supervised learning methods like Linear Regression, Logistic Regression and Neural Networks.

   b) KSS - Introduction to CS, DSA and CP

  • Date: 14th November 2023, 7:45PM - 9:00 PM
  • Mode: Offline - Classroom 0.4, CIDS, NITK
  • Turnout: 78
  • Exploring CS domains and applications, DSA key concepts and problem solving sessions for basic Competitive programming.

   c) KSS - Introduction to Inux, Git and Cryptography

  • Date: 15th November 2023, 8:30 PM
  • Mode: Online - Google Meet
  • Turnout: 68
  • Exploring topics like Linux based operating systems, BASH terminal and commands, version control systems and basic cryptography-based algorithms like Caesar and Affine ciphers.

   d) Capture The Flag

  • Date: 17th November, 9:00 PM - 18th November, 9:00 AM
  • Mode: Online 
  • Turnout: 111
  • 41 teams totalling 111 participants took part in this event spanning various domains like web development, forensics, cryptography etc. This helped reinforce the importance of cybersecurity skills in the current digital landscape. 

2) Diode

    a) Analog Electronics KSS - OperationX

  • Date: 13th November, 9:15 PM - 10:15 PM
  • Mode: Online (Google Meet)
  • Turnout: 75
  • Interactive session on Op-Amps and datasheets, with basic concepts and ideas were discussed

    b) Digital Electronics KSS - Logicrypt

  • Date: 14th November, 6:15 PM - 7:45 PM
  • Mode: Offline - Classroom 0.1, CIDS, NITK
  • Turnout: 52
  • Interactive session where freshers learnt about Boolean ALgebra, Logic Gates, Combinational Logic etc. along with Logism and hardware demonstration.

    c) Final Day Event - DISARM

  • Date: 1th November, 6:15 PM - 8:15 PM
  • Mode: Offline - Ground Floor, CIDS, NITK
  • Turnout: 60-90
  • Consisted of a pre-event competitive quiz (via UnStop) based on the KSS questions, and the DISARM event based on the “Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (KTMB)”.  10 teams battled it out  with the ultimate objective of removing the right wire from the breadboard.

3) Piston

    a) KSS - Introduction to Fusion360

  • Date: 13th November 2023, 6:15 PM - 7:45 PM
  • Mode: Offline - Seminar Hall, CSE Department, NITK
  • Turnout: 60
  • A hands-on interactive session where the fundamentals of Fusion360 was explained and its versatility was explored 

    b) Hoard The Board

  • Date: 14th November 2023, 10:00 PM - 10:20 PM (Screening Test)

                   15th November 2023, 6:15 PM - 7:45 PM (FINALS)

  • Mode: Online for Screening Test

                    Offline for Finals - Seminar Hall, LHC-A, NITK

  • Turnout: 60
  • An informative and interactive problem solving challenge based on the Monopoly board game. The event involved teams navigating engineering challenges and familiarizing themselves with the real life problem solving process.
