Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham-Chennai IEEE Student Branch Inaugration
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Chennai Campus inaugurated IEEE Student Branch on October 20, 2023 at a fully-packed Amritamayi Auditorium. Dr.K. Porkumaran, Chair, IEEE Madras Section & Principal, Sairam Engineering College, Chennai addressed the gathering online and Dr. Srikanth S, Chief Knowledge Officer, Nano Cell Networks Pvt Ltd was present on the Dias. The inaugural event was attended by all the IEEE Student Branch members, students and faculty from all branches of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Chennai.
The event commenced with an address from Dr. V. JayaKumar, Principal, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Chennai who underscored the significance of IEEE membership in his speech. He said about the two aspects of learning that are Knowledge and Skill. He highlighted that Knowledge can be readily acquired within the confines of a classroom whereas Skill can be acquired by transforming Knowledge learnt in the classroom into real life situations through Heackathons, Projects with soceital-impact, participation in National and international conferences etc. He reiterated that IEEE is a wonderful platform which provides all these opportunities and more to the students. He announced the Office Bearers of the IEEE Student Branch of the campus as follows. Dr Sita Devi Bharatula (Assistant Professor(SG) & Chairperson i/c of ECE Department) as the SB Counselor, Korada Kalyan Varun Kumar(3rd Year ECE) as Chair, Kanwaljeet Kaur (3rd Year CCE) as Vice Chair, P.Yashaswini (2nd Year CCE) as Secretary, Doddi Sreenija Reddy (2nd Year CSE) as Treasurer, Ch. Meghan Sai (2nd Year CCE) as Web Master.
Dr.K.Porkumaran who joined the event through online, explained about the activities going on in different regions of the globe. He discussed about the student funding opportunities for international conferences.He also presented at length about the prestigious awards and scholarships offered by IEEE to a mesmerised audience. He encouraged the students to utilize the chance to connect with societies chapters, and industries.
Dr.Srikanth S of NanoCell Networks Pvt Ltd shared his experience on being an IEEE chair 35 years ago and also member till now. He shared his experiences regarding collaborative projects involving IIT Palakkad and IIT Madras and emphasized the significance of 5G technology in relation to the devices currently in use. He inquired about the relevance of 2G technology in India and highlighted that its cost and affordability have a substantial impact, particularly with the prevalence of 5G applications, which expedite various tasks. At last he emphasized on the crucial aspects of the wireless spectrum. It was a thought provoking interactive session by Dr. Srikanth with highly energetic and immersed audience.
