New Brunswick’s First Satellite Going to Space
CubeSat VIOLET, New Brunswick’s first satellite, was designed, built, and tested, between May 4, 2018, and November 28, 2023. It was handed over to NanoRacks LLC at the Canadian Space Agency headquarters for a planned launch into space in March, 2024, followed by deployment from the International Space Station in May, 2024. VIOLET is planning to study space weather and the upper atmosphere near the peak of the 11-year solar cycle. This project involved hundreds of students with aspects in, physics, geodesy and geomatics engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, software engineering, and project management.
