This is a planning meeting for the Lehigh Valley WIE Affinity Group. Interested Lehigh Valley Section WIE members or prospective members are welcome to attend.

Meeting Minutes of Lehigh Valley WIE meeting 1.8.24

Attendees: Bonnie Rohde, Maria Cohen, Christine Gerveshi, CJ Sasso, Jennifer Winikus

1. Approval of the December Minutes (pending)
2. Updates to Betty's 75^th Anniversary of the Transistor event (pending)
3. Responses/Questions to proposal for Lego Challenge (August start) or Aerolab

1. What middle school(s) would you recommend we approach?
2. How many student/IEEE member volunteers will be needed? (class of 30 students/2 volunteers)
3. How long will the program take? 2 hours/3 hours (set up and execution, over 5 sessions)
4. Which group are we targeting?  Elementary or Middle School

1. How many middle school students or elementary school could participate?
2. How much funding is required?
3. Will we have a complete program to hand-off to volunteers or would the volunteers be providing input into the design of the program?

** Take to Ex-com to determine if any program like this was tried in the past and its success with volunteers and middle-school/elementary students, also to determine if IEEE student members are interested in volunteering to teach/support the program.

4. Did we meet our obligations to obtain the WIE Affinity group funds? Christine, do you know what our obligations are to meet funding ($200)?  So many meetings, so many talks, anything else?
5. When and where will be our next Happy Hour Event?  Recommend back to Lehigh Valley or is there another area we didn’t address?
6. Update on career panel opportunity below, for next Thursday- Lehigh University will host a career workshop on 18 (next Thursday) and invite several NSF (National Science Foundation) career awardee to sharer their experience and suggestions.  I asked Lifang if LVS WIE could sponsor the event and stream it to our members and students?  She will inquire and let me know.

1. New items?  Maria brought to the group information about a summer camp for girls in the Lehigh Valley where they are introduced to construction and engineering.  She sent us a link https://www.letsbuildcamp.com/  She recommended this program for LVS WIE volunteers and student volunteers.

Bonnie mentioned a new initiative that was recently published in the IEEE Educational Activities Newsletter  – IEEE Receives Grant to Develop Lesson Plans on Semiconductors (IEEE TryEngineering)
