Event Objective: The talk session aimed to provide guidance and advice to students on how to manage the transition from education to an industry job. It aimed to highlight the additional skills preferred by industry employers and how to acquire them. The speaker also offered practical tips and suggestions on how to identify and explore industry opportunities, tailor one’s resume and cover letter, prepare for interviews, and negotiate offers.

Event Description: 

The session on "Transitioning from Academia to Industry" was a valuable experience for students, where Dr. Mathew C D, Asst. Professor and Placement Cell Officer at IIIT Kottayam provided expert guidance and advice on how to navigate the challenging transition from education to an industry job. The talk session emphasized the importance of transferable skills and competencies, which students can leverage from their academic training, as well as the additional skills and qualifications needed by industry employers, such as business acumen, project management, communication, etc. The session also provided practical tips and suggestions on how to identify and explore industry opportunities, tailor one's resume and cover letter, prepare for interviews, and negotiate offers. 

Dr. Mathew shared real-life experiences and stories of successful transitions from academia to industry, as well as the potential difficulties and adjustments that may arise during the process. He also highlighted the opportunities and benefits of working in the industry, such as career advancement, innovation, and impact. Overall, the session was an excellent opportunity for students to learn from an experienced professional and gain insight into the industry's expectations and requirements.
