Following the tradition of each consecutive year, this year in 2023- IEEE Bangladesh Section is organized "IEEE Bangladesh Section Student Branch (SB) Chair's, Counselors', WIE SB AG and SB Society Chapter Advisors' Meet up 2023" in hybrid mode. The virtual mode is organized on the Zoom platform and the physical at IICT Room 705, ECE Building, BUET, West Palashi, Dhaka, Bangladesh on 30th December 2023. Student Branch Chairs, student Branch WIE AG Chairs, student Branch Society Chapter Advisors' and Student Branch Counselors are attend the Summit. Student Branches, Affinity Groups, and Society Chapters are the heart of the section and significant stakeholders for the overall activities, it was necessary to meet up all the leaders of the section to come up in a common platform to share ideas and discuss on successful initiatives that can put a remarkable milestone in the Section's Portfolio.

Keeping the vision, IEEE Bangladesh Section's Student Branch (SB) Chair's, Counselors', WIE SB AG and SB Society Chapter Advisors' Meet up 2023 was scheduled as the following:

In the summit, the keynote talk was presented by Professor M. Saif Islam, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and The Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society and the Banatao Institute (CITRIS), The University of California, Davis, CA 95616 USA.

IEEE Women in Engineering Chair and Professor, Dept. of EEE, BUET Prof. Celia Shahnaz; Institute of Robotics and Automation, BUET -IRAB Director and Professor, Dept. of EEE, BUET Prof. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, IEEE Bangladesh Section Chair and Professor, Dept. of CSE, CUET Prof. Moshiul Hoque guided IEEE Bangladesh Section Student Branch's Chairs, WIE AG Chairs, Society Chapter Advisors' and Counselors.

IEEE Bangladesh Section Vice Chair (Activity) Prof. Md. Raju Ahmed, Professor, Dept. of EEE, DUET; IEEE BDS Student Activity Coordinator Dr. M Tanseer Ali, Associate Professor, Dept. of EEE, AIUB; IEEE BDS Awards Coordinator Prof. Md. Maniruzzaman, Professor, Dept. of ECE, KU; IEEE BDS Humanitarian Activity Coordinator Prof. Naruttam Kumar Roy, Professor, Dept. of EEE, KUET; IEEE BDS Industrial Activity Coordinator, Associate Professor, Dept. of ICE, KU and IEEE BDS Publicity Coordinator Engr Shohel Rana along with various university IEEE Bangladesh Section Student Branch SPS Chapter members, IEEE BDS SB Chair's, Counselors', WIE SB AG and SB Society Chapter Advisors are  attended the event. Around 85 participants attended the event.

Technical co-sponsors of the event are IEEE BDS WIE AG, IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh and IEEE Bangladesh Section's five society chapters, namely IEEE RAS Bangladesh Chapter, IEEE EMBS Bangladesh Chapter, IEEE SPS Bangladesh Chapter, IEEE IAS Bangladesh Chapter and IEEE SSIT Bangladesh Chapter.

M. Saif Islam M. Saif Islam


M. Saif Islam received his B.Sc. Degree in Physics from Middle East Technical University, an M.S. degree in Physics from Bilkent University, and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA in 2001. He worked for JDS Uniphase Corp and HP Labs before joining University of California- Davis in 2004, where he is a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Director of the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) at UC Davis. His research in nanotechnology integrates low-dimensional and nanostructured materials into conventional semiconductor integrated circuits and systems. His work encompasses ultrafast optoelectronics for computing, 6G communication, quantum sensing, AI-enabled imaging, energy harvesting, and wide bandgap materials for harsh environment applications. Dr. Islam authored or co-authored more than 300 scientific papers, organized 35 conferences as a chair/co-chair, and holds 42 patents as an inventor/co- inventor. Prof. Islam received NSF CAREER Award, Outstanding Junior, Outstanding Mid-Career and Outstanding Senior Research Faculty Award of UC Davis Engineering, IEEE Professor of the Year and UC Davis Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Optical Society (Optica), International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
