h2. Abstract

Top industry analyst IDC predicts that Cloud-based infrastructures will lead to major, transformational changes across the industry, and 2010 would be the tipping point. Several industry analysts and IT leaders are in agreement that Cloud computing is poised to be a significant growth area. Modern cloud platforms hold a great promise to offer computing and UT as a service faster and cheaper to the Enterprise and SMBs. However, the Enterprise and SMBs today comprise of legacy systems and platforms, and legacy applications of significant complexity. This represents a major financial and engineering investment in the industry. Incompatibility of legacy systems and applications typically is a major blocker to the adoption of new technology. This talk provides an industry-focused introduction to Cloud Computing, especially SaaS and PaaS aspects and benefits to large, existing IT infrastructures. We will also cover the role of virtualization in cloud computing to address this need, and offer other significant advantages such as economy, consolidation, efficiency in configuration and management, high availability and energy savings. It explains how virtualization can be used to enable an end-to-end experience for LORGs and SMBs to run their virtual desktops, Dev tools, Linux/Win32 apps, LOB and legacy apps which may be even incompatible with some operating systems and the modern (.Net/java) web-apps as well, with seamless interoperability.
