Biography:

Professor Nicolae Țăpuș is Honorary Member of Romanian Academy, member and vice-president of Romanian Technical Science Academy and President of Information Technology and Communication of ASTR Academy Section.

He is a Professor of the Computer Science and Engineering Department, Head of Department (1990-2008, 2012-2016), Vice President of Politehnica University (2012-2020), Vice-Rector (2006-2012), president of Research Institute PRECIS from UPB (since 2020)  

His main fields of expertise are Distributed Systems, Local Area Networks, Computer Architecture, Cluster and Grid Computing. He is member of the board of the National Center for Information Technology.

Nicolae Tapus published more than 300 articles and papers at international conferences, 7 books and 12 university textbooks. He is PhD supervisor. He was a visiting professor in European and US Universities, such as: Grenoble (France), Free University of Amsterdam (Nederland), Politecnico di Torino (Italy), and Maryland University (US).

Prof Tapus was advisor for student team’s winners at IEEE Annual Computer Society International Design Competition (CSIDC): first place in the world - 2002, two times second place - 2003, 2004 and two times third place - 2005, 2006 in Washington DC, USA.

Nicolae Tapus was chair of IEEE Romania Section (2006-2010) and chair of Romania Computer Society Chapter (2002-). He is director of ACM-ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest for Southeaster Europe since 1994.

His activities were awarded by Romanian Academy-1975 and Education Ministry -1978.

Prof Tapus was involved in FP7 research activities as responsible of Romania team of SENSEI- Integrating the Physical with the Digital World of the Network of the Future, P2P-Next Next Generation Peer-to-Peer Content Delivery Platform, EU-NCIT leading to EU IST Excellency, HP-SEE, etc. 

He is member of Program Committees in several International Conferences and has actively collaboration with IT Companies.
