Biography:

Mr. Robert Sternowski is founder and President of Softronics Ltd., a veteran-owned small business specializing in the design and manufacture of high frequency communications and electronics. Products and systems serve primarily the U.S. Government, including the defense and civil agencies. The ISO-9002/AS9100D certified small business both designs and manufactures its own products, as well as providing field and after-sale support. Mr. Sternowski is the primary strategist for the company, supported by several retired veterans of Rockwell Collins business development. Softronics designs and manufactures software-defined radios, complex RF filters and amplifiers, packaging for a variety of severe environments, and software to support their products and systems.

Prior to starting Softronics, Mr. Sternowski worked 34 years for Rockwell Collins (now Collins Technology division of Raytheon). Beginning as a junior engineer designing receivers, he advanced through the engineering and program management ranks, responsible for the design, manufacturing and fielding of a variety of state-of-the-art new radio-based products and systems for the Government defense, intelligence and civil agencies. He next served as director of advanced projects engineering and then of the advanced projects business group. He concluded his career as a senior program strategist for defense and intelligence programs. Major programs included the Army TSC-122 (product designer), the Navy HFIP (PM) and HFAJ (strategist), Air Force ARC-190 (Eng Mgr), portable INMARSAT terminals (PM), development of Collins’ first DSP receiver (Eng Mgr), and lead strategist for the Transformational Communications Architecture (TCA). Half of his career was served as PM and chief engineer for [unnamed] proprietary programs/projects.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton, a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University, and a Master of Commerce degree from the University of Richmond. He served in the US Army during the Viet Nam war. He carried the rank of Sergeant (E-5) as a Bandsman, Clarinet, with the 392nd Army Band, Fort Lee, VA, and also served as the company clerk.

Mr. Sternowski has served on the Defense Science Board and worked on a variety of other special research teams for the Government. He is an active supporter of his community’s arts programs, helping to organize and operate several community bands, and is an accomplished musician playing year-round in a variety of musical groups on single reeds, tuba and recorder. He is also an amateur radio operator.
