This presentation discusses the increasing levels of RF ambient noise particularly in the VHF and UHF frequency bands. RF ambient noise is the result of a cacophony of signals from the vast electronic world we live in. The noise floor in many areas has increased by 30-40 dB. This is causing significant issues for commercial broadcasters, aviation radio, marine communications, land mobile radio, military, and other users of the spectrum between 30 and 500 MHz.  Measurements and a discussion of the effects of this increasing noise floor will be presented.

Is VHF Dead?

This presentation discusses the increasing levels of RF ambient noise particularly in the VHF and UHF frequency bands. Biography:

Joe Blaschka started messing around with communications and electronics when he became an amateur radio operator at age 14. He graduated from Seattle University with an EE degree in 1973. He worked for Motorola Communications and Teltone Corporation prior to starting his own consulting engineering company. He became a Registered Professional Engineer so he could be “professionally” messing around with communications.  He owned and operated ADCOMM Engineering for approximately 41 years which he sold and is now mostly retired. He is currently the owner of CEJA Engineering Co. He has been interested in, chasing, and following developments in the RF Ambient Noise area for a couple of decades.
