Abstract:

Timings: 45 Minutes – 1 Hour

This briefing provides an overview of the DISR Critical Technology Standards measure. Broken into its parts, the briefing:

  • provides an overview of the standards ecosystem and informs the audience of the in-scope tech verticals;
  • prosecutes the case as to why standards are important to government, industry and academia; and
  • introduces our strategy to lift participation, including the opportunities provided to standards participants.

This briefing is relevant to IEEE Members interested in, or participating in the development of international standards through IEEE SA, ISO, IEC, IETF or international standards bodies that are multi-stakeholder, industry led and consensus based.

Bio:

Philip works in the Critical Technology Hub at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, which sits at the intersection between policy and technological innovation. His past achievements include developing policy to establish Australia’s National AI Centre and contributing to Australia's AI strategy.

Philip focuses on the development and promotion of ethical, industry led standards and advocates for Australian leadership in their development. His work supports Australia’s international voice in technology development and is committed to progressing critical technologies that are innovative and responsible.

In 2023, Philip became DISR’s representative to the IEEE SA through the Government Engagement Program on Standards. He aims to use this position to increase Australian participation in the development of IEEE standards.
